About The New England Playmakers
The New England Playmakers is a year round basketball skill development program.
It is our mission to create a fun and competitive basketball environment that is focused on providing skill development, teamwork, self-confidence and leadership for players involved with the New England Playmakers.
We take pride in the quality and condition of our coaches. Our enthusiastic coaching staff consists of men and women who share a common passion and commitment to the game. We wholeheartedly believe skills and fundamentals are the foundation of every great player, and it is our goal to maximize their talents and abilities on and off the court.
Steve Gibbs
Steve founded the New England Playmakers in 2011. Additionally, he is the co-founder and director of Hoop Mountain. Steve has been the men’s varsity head coach at Pingree since 2002. He has amassed over 400 wins and captured many league championships and New England titles. He has coached professional players and scholarship players. At Playmakers, in addition to club direction and programming, Steve is currently coaching one of the boys’ young and promising teams.
Jon Jaworski
Jon is a brilliant basketball teacher. His enthusiasm and love for coaching is quite evident. John specializes in teaching the youth how to play the game properly. One of his elite strengths relates to proper principles of shooting the ball. Jon has been on the Playmaker staff since its inception in 2011. He has previously served as the Varsity head basketball coach of Bishop Fenwick High School. Jon is also a certified board referee.
Tony Davis
Coach Davis is a seasoned basketball coach with over 30 years of experience developing young athletes and fostering a love for the game. Currently, Tony serves as a coach for the prestigious New England Playmakers AAU organization, where he mentors players in one of the region's most competitive basketball programs. Coach Davis is a dedicated and accomplished basketball coach with a wealth of experience in player development and team success. In addition to his AAU work, Tony is a Varsity Assistant Coach at Pingree School, contributing to the growth and success of the student-athletes in their basketball program.
Ashley White
The NE Playmakers are so fortunate to have recently added Ashley to its staff. Ashley played and was a star on the basketball team at Salem State. As a senior at Salem State, she led her team in three-point shooting and assists. Ashley was also a star at Salem High School. She has been the head coach of Salem State College basketball for the past three years. Her teams are renowned for up tempo pace and lock down defense. We are proud to have Ashley as one of our advanced Playmakers coaches.
Dave Latimer
Coach Dave brings a wealth of experience both as a player and a coach, having demonstrated success at the highest levels of basketball. A standout high school player at Allegany High School, he led his team to three state championship games, with a remarkable 72-6 record over those three seasons. His talents earned him an invitation to walk on at West Virginia University, where he played alongside future NBA coach Joe Mazzulla.
With over 12 years of coaching experience at The Pingree School, Coach Dave transformed the girls' basketball program into one of the most competitive in New England. His leadership and commitment to player development consistently produced athletes who earned spots at top academic colleges and universities across the country. Coach Dave is known for his ability to elevate players to their full potential, both on and off the court.
Whether as a player or a coach, Coach Dave has built a legacy of success and dedication to the game of basketball. His coaching philosophy centers on skill development, teamwork, and preparing young athletes for success at the collegiate level and beyond.
Tom Fanara
Tom played and was an all-around exceptional player and leader at Salem State on the varsity basketball team. He was dubbed by many, including Head Coach Chris Harvey as the “glue to the team.” Currently a junior, Tommy made many all-league teams and collected many awards. He is at the forefront of the NE Playmakers player acquisition and development program and we are fortunate to have him on the team.
Tom Borghesi
Tom joined the Playmakers team as the 3rd partner in 2024. He is a successful entrepreneur who has built and is currently operating Syntagma Group; a 2-time Boston Business Journal Fast 50 Award Winner. He also sits on the BOD at SATW, a nonprofit 401c3 organization which was formed to provide for children with cancer. Tom is responsible for helping to build and cultivate both front and back-office operations for Playmakers. He is a former college athlete and graduated with a BS Management from Babson College.
